Kids need healthy food and healthy activities during the summer months. LCSC offers the program for Lakewood school students in grades K-5 who qualify for free or reduced-price meals during the school year. Because of COVID-19, we were unable to offer this wonderful free program, but thanks to the generous support from Healthy Lakewood Foundation, it will return for two sessions this summer.
Kids have opportunities to participate in bowling at Mahall’s 20 Lanes, swim lessons at Madison Pool, and library time at the newly renovated Lakewood Public Library Madison Branch. Each session offers a field trip to the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village, and each session will include an art experience field trip. There is plenty of time to play at Madison Park and time to enjoy crafts and games on rainy days.
Beyond the activities, delicious lunches prepared by Lakewood’s own Karen King Catering are provided. The menus include fresh fruit and fresh veggies every day. Who knew eating healthy could be so yummy?
The program is run by four LCSC summer staff members assisted by high school volunteers. Registration forms will be sent to all Lakewood elementary schools just after spring break in 2023. This is a first come first served program and the 80 slots fill quickly. Make sure to get your child(ren) registered as early as possible!
